Loggerhead Instruments: low-power acoustic dataloggers - bioacoustics

DSG Recording System

DSG is a low-power acoustic recorder designed to sample at rates up to 80 kHz continuously or on a duty cycle to Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory.  The DSG also supports burst recording at sample rates up to 400 kHz.  Burst recording utilizes a 512 ksample onboard memory buffer to store data while it is written to the flash memory card (about 1 s every 10 s at 400 kHz).

DSG

Flexible Recording with Real Time Clock

DSG recording is controlled by script files on the SDHC card in concert with the on-board Real-Time Clock (RTC).  The real-time clock is high accuracy with temperature compensated drift (accuracy +/- 2 minutes/year).

High-Capacity Storage

Data are stored to a SDHC card , using a FAT32 file system.  Thus, the flash card can be removed and connected to a computer for fast data download.  The DSG file system is an advanced data file structure that stores raw data, latitude, longitude, depth, calibrations, and embedded time stamps so that all data that is stored can remain time-aligned.

Note on 32 GB SDHC cards

The DSG is able to write to 32 GB SDHC cards, but at a lower maximum streaming sample rate (20 kHz) than the 16 GB cards (80 kHz). Shorter bursts of recording are supported on 32 GB cards (up to 512,000 samples) at all sample rates up to the maximum 400 kHz sample rate.

Low-Power

The DSG features power-saving features including sleep and wake cycles when performing interval recording.

Field Upgradeable Firmware

DSG Firmware is the software that is burned to the DSG in the factory.  The firmware is field-upgradeable, so that improvements in the firmware can be uploaded to all DSG recorders.
